English education is currently included in the Merdeka Curriculum subject&#13;
structure at the primary school level. Due to a shortage of teachers, a rural primary&#13;
school has made the class teacher the English teacher. The purpose of this study is&#13;
to find out what challenges Non-English teachers face and what strategies are used&#13;
to deal with challenges when teaching English with a non-english teachers'&#13;
educational background.&#13;
This study employed a qualitative research type with a sample of 2&#13;
classroom teachers who teach using the Kurikulum Merdeka in a rural primary&#13;
school. The instruments used in data collection were semi-structured interviews,&#13;
observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used the data analysis&#13;
model from Miles &amp; Humberman.&#13;
The study found four main challenges as well as strategies undertaken by&#13;
teachers namely: English's place in the curriculum, absence of experienced English&#13;
teachers, Inadequate facilities for education, and Students' negative attitudes&#13;
towards studying English. The fifth aspect, socioeconomic background of students,&#13;
was not applicable where this study took place. Through this study, the researcher&#13;
suggests that it is necessary to recruit teachers according to their studies so that&#13;
learning can be of higher quality.</note>
