<note>An Analysis of Speech Act on the Main Character in Shrek
Movie Script. Undergraduate Thesis. English Language Education Study Program.
Catholic University of Santo Augustine Hippo Ngabang in 2022/2023.
This research aims to find out the kinds of illocutionary acts contained in the Shrek
movie script and to find Shrek's purpose as the main character in using speech acts.
The theory used in this research was Searle's (1969). The subject of this research was

the main character in the Shrek movie. The research method used was descriptive-
qualitative. Data was collected by using document techniques. To analyse the data,

the researcher used the Miles and Huberman theory. Based on the findings of this
research, the researcher found that there were around 300 utterances from beginning
to end expressed by the main character in the movie, but the researcher found 10
utterances that were included in illocutionary speech acts. It consists of 1
representative utterance, 4 expressive utterances, 4 directive utterances, and 2
commissive utterances. The illocutionary speech act that was often used by the main
character of the Shrek movie was the directive illocutionary speech act, namely a
command.</note>
