This research describes the slang found in the lyrics of Bruno Mars' songs.
The purpose of the research is to identify and analyse the use of types of slang words
and the meaning of slang words contained in the lyrics of Bruno Mars songs. This
type of research is qualitative research with descriptive qualitative method and
content analysis. The types and meanings of slang words are the data sources in this
research which are obtained from the lyrics of Bruno Mars songs chosen by the
researcher. The theory used in this research is Bloom Fields theory. The types of
slang words used include 1) abbreviation, 2) shortened words, 3) funny
mispronounce, and 4) interjection. The data collection technique uses the method
of listening, engaging and taking notes.
Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the researchers
found 101 slang words in the lyrics of the selected Bruno Mars songs, consisting of
8 abbreviations, 70 shortened words, 6 funny mispronounce, and 17 interjection.
The findings in this study are more dominant in shortened words as many as 70
slang words found or in the form of a percentage of 69%. Based on the findings in
this study, the songs selected in this study are The Lazy Song, Just the Way You
Are, It Will Rain, Lighters, And Marry You.
