REGULATION STRATEGIES IN PRIVATE SENIOR AND VOCATIONAL HIGH

The different characters of students become the basis for a teacher in managing their
emotions. Apart from the different characteristics of students, teachers often face challenges in
creating a comfortable learning environment because of limited emotional interaction with their
students, so teachers have to emotional regulation. This lack of connectedness can hinder their
ability to accurately assess students' understanding of the material. Therefore, this research
aims to determine the emotional regulation strategies used by EFL teachers at SMA and SMK
Maniamas.
This research involves analysis to obtain data using qualitative descriptive methods.
The sample consisted of two private high school and vocational school teachers. The sampling
technique used in this research was purposive sampling. Data collection instruments include
observation and interviews. In this qualitative research, researchers use triangulation of data
sources to ensure information is conveyed consistently. Data analysis is divided into three
stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.

The researcher found that Subject 1 utilized Situation Modification strategies, while
Subject 2 employed Situation Selection and Attentional Deployment strategies for emotion
regulation. The researcher suggests that future studies should examine the effectiveness of
different emotion regulation strategies in various teaching contexts and subjects, particularly
techniques such as situation selection, response modification, and distraction.
