Exploring the Challenges in English Learning
Process at A State Senior High School 01 in A Border Area. Principal Advisor:

Nowadays, English plays an important role in building international
communication. Therefore, English are learning at the primary education to higher
education in Indonesia, that thought as the foreign language, there are many
challenges face by students especially in the border area.
This study has following objectives to describes the challenges face by
students at a state Senior High School in border area, and explain what are the
strategy that students use to overcome the challenges. This study using qualitative
descriptive research employed observation, interviews and documentation to
collect the data. This research discusses the challenges of learning English in high
schools, especially in border areas. The subject of this study is students in class XI
A, that researcher use as the sample are three students from the class
The study successfully identified several challenges faced by students in
learning English, including low interest and motivation, lack of awareness in
importance of English, and unsupportive learning environment, such as family and
peers. These challenges significantly impact the English learning process of
students in the border area. This study found the strategies that students use to
overcome the challenges there are metacognitive, cognitive, and socio-affective
strategies.
