Nowadays, English plays an important role in building international&#13;
communication. Therefore, English are learning at the primary education to higher&#13;
education in Indonesia, that thought as the foreign language, there are many&#13;
challenges face by students especially in the border area.&#13;
This study has following objectives to describes the challenges face by&#13;
students at a state Senior High School in border area, and explain what are the&#13;
strategy that students use to overcome the challenges. This study using qualitative&#13;
descriptive research employed observation, interviews and documentation to&#13;
collect the data. This research discusses the challenges of learning English in high&#13;
schools, especially in border areas. The subject of this study is students in class XI&#13;
A, that researcher use as the sample are three students from the class&#13;
The study successfully identified several challenges faced by students in&#13;
learning English, including low interest and motivation, lack of awareness in&#13;
importance of English, and unsupportive learning environment, such as family and&#13;
peers. These challenges significantly impact the English learning process of&#13;
students in the border area. This study found the strategies that students use to&#13;
overcome the challenges there are metacognitive, cognitive, and socio-affective&#13;
strategies.</note>
